A Lecture by the Rev. Robert J. Congdon
The Lay Committee on Contemporary Spiritual-&-Public Concerns (the“CSPCCommittee”) of St. Paul Parish, Cambridge, held its Third Inaugural Lecture on Sunday, September 30, 2007, 3:30-5:00pm. Newly-appointed St. Paul Pastor, the Reverend Robert J. Congdon, spoke on “The Christ-Life: Worship, Communion, and Service.” This event was held in the Upper Church at St. Paul Parish, 29 Mount Auburn Street, Cambridge, MA. With a reception following the talk.
Rev. Congdon was named Pastor of St.Paul Parish and Senior Chaplain at the Harvard Catholic Chaplaincy by His Eminence Seán Patrick Cardinal O'Malley, O.F.M., Cap., of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston. Father Congdon’s appointment was effective August 1, 2007. Or dained to the Roman Catholic priesthood in 1987, Father Congdon earned his Doctorate in Systematic Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, Italy, 1997. Upon completing his doctorate, he became Professor of Sacramental Theology at St.John’s Seminary in Brighton, MA, where he taught until 2004. Father Congdon received his Licentiate in Sacramental Theology from the Pontifical Athenaeum of St. Anselmin Rome, Italy, 1988, following a degree in philosophy, also at St. John’s Seminary College. Father Congdon has ministered in several parishes of the Archdiocese of Boston as parochial vicar, team minister, and pastor. He has a keen interest in languages, liturgy, and music. Father Congdon taught foreign languages, including Spanish, as a faculty member at St. John’s Seminary and he currently teaches Italian as a Visiting Professor at Wheaton College, Norton, MA. He is a member of the North American Academy of Liturgy. Father Congdon, an accomplished classical pianist who gives occasional concerts, studied piano performance at New England Conservatory and Boston College and now consults with Maestro Carlo Dominici in Rome.
